The purpose of this study is to better understand the similarities and differences associated with translation and interpretation: despite all of the inherent differences between the two fields, they are so often grouped into the same category. This independent study carefully breaks down the individual characteristics of each field and uses that information to compare and contrast them in a meaningful way. The goal of the study is to provide the reader with an in-depth look into each field as well as provide useful information to any individual who is considering working in the field of translation or interpretation. Previous research that has highlighted the individuality of each field, as well as personal experiences regarding both fields, was utilized to draw the conclusions found in this study.
