- Abstract
The purpose of this report is to detail the goals, methods, and results of a GIS project completed as a senior thesis. The goal of the thesis was to better understand the affects that a large seismic event related to either the Wabash Seismic Zone or the New Madrid Seismic Zone would have on the city of Evansville, IN. To achieve this goal, data from the USGS report, “Evansville Area Earthquake Hazards Mapping Project†was formatted into a raster on ArcGIS and combined with a population density map also created on ArcGIS. The resulting maps communicate which areas of Evansville are most at risk from earthquake related damage and how this will affect its citizens. This information combined with liquefaction data (Boyd) and geologic data (Haase) creates a complete image of the seismic hazard in the Evansville area.
