- Abstract
The current study aims to determine a difference in fundamental movement necessary for basic physical activity between athletes who participate in more than one type of exercise (multimode) and athletes who participate in only one type of exercise (single-mode). These measurements were taken by using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) which is comprised of 7 basic movements and 3 pain clearance tests. An intervention was also used to determine if FMS scores could be improved. The subjects were 5 college-age (19-22) student-athletes, three single-mode and two multi-mode. It was hypothesized that multi-mode athletes would have higher initial FMS scores than single-mode athletes. It was also hypothesized that FMS scores would improve post-intervention. The results of this study support hypothesis #1. In conclusion, multi-mode athletes have higher FMS scores, and it is possible for FMS scores to improve after an intervention.
