Abstract
  • Now in land deals, the Native Americans saw these deals as the beginning of a friendship . Tribes such as the Delaware would put a lot of thought into the deals they made and also gave gifts along with these land deals. These gifts were symbols of the friendship that they wanted to establish by making treaties and selling land . However not all of the Colonists saw the land deals in the same way that they did. People like William Penn were interested in making friends with the Native Americans. As this thesis continues, one will be able to see that William Penn respected the way that the Native Americans saw the land. Whereas Penn’s sons did not want to participate in this thinking about land. They wanted the strict boarders . So this caused troubles in land disputes. As well as it caused an avenue for misconceptions in land purchases. As discussed later, James Logan and William Penn’s sons sometimes would purchase land from the Delaware and give the Delaware the impression that they could remain on the land however they could not stay. Stories of this happening will be discussed later. The natives also had trouble with other European themes and products that they brought with them.
