Scope and Content: Records of the Shannondale Presbyterian Church in Montgomery County, IN, 1831-1976, which was also known as the Bethel Presbyterian Church of Shannondale. Session minutes document the operation and running of the church. These records include proceedings against members for misconduct (drunkenness, illegitimate children, card playing, unchristian conduct, etc.); baptisms; records of communicants; births; deaths; Crawfordsville Presbytery; dismissions; membership lists; marriages; and orphans. It also includes biographies of church elders; church history; records related to the split of the church; church leadership; financial records; building repairs; land deeds; and church anniversary celebrations.

Historical Note: The Shannondale Presbyterian Church (Bethel Presbyterian Church of Shannondale) was organized on March 17, 1831, by William Claibourne Young in Montgomery County, Indiana. The church was originally known as Bethel Church. The church split in 1831 during a division in the Presbyterian Church, creating New Bethel Church. Both churches grew and constructed new buildings. The two churches merged in 1870, forming two churches: Bethel Church and Dover Presbyterian Church. Through the years, Bethel Church has had regular worship and served their community. The church remains active today.
