Historical Note: The Jeanette was an arctic explorer ship chartered to find a route to the North Pole through the Bering Strait from 1879-1881. The ship became trapped in ice and sank, forcing the crew to evacuate. The crew ended up in Siberia, suffering from hypothermia and malnutrition. Noros and another crew member were sent ahead to look for help. By the time they returned, the rest of the crew had died.

Scope and Content: Personal and business paper of Louis Noros, primarily related to his work and rescue from the arctic explorer ship the Jeanette, 1852-1927. It includes correspondence, booklets, event invitations, newspaper clippings, stock certificates, postcards, photographs, military honors and awards, obituaries, military discharge and pension, and documents about the investigation into the sinking of the Jeannette. Collection also contains the military certificates of Frank Wilcox.
