Historical Note: Robert Gene Trimble was born 10 January 1930 on a farm near Carlisle, Indiana. The youngest of four children, Trimble graduated from Carlisle High School in 1948. In 1952, he received his BA degree in Spanish, an MA in Spanish in 1958, and in 1968 a PhD. in Spanish Language and Literature with a minor in Latin American History, all from Indiana University. Trimble taught Spanish from 1958 to 1960 at Purdue University. In 1961, he began teaching Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American History at Hanover College. He retired after thirty-five years of service in 1995. During his tenure at Hanover, Trimble conducted twelve spring term classes in Mexico and four in Spain. Along with Dr. Anwarul Haq, he initiated the Faculty International Study Travel program, with which he took one faculty group to Portugal and Spain, and another to France and Spain.

Scope and Content: The Robert Trimble Papers include Trimble’s teaching files and documents related to his spring term classes in Mexico and his Spanish summer camps at Hanover College from 1963 – 1983. It includes correspondence with his wife and Hanover College Faculty; promotional materials; handbooks; booklets; itineraries; reports; syllabi; newspaper clippings; and photographs.
