Historical Note: Reverend Ambrose Yeomans Moore, D.D., was born on 8 February 1823 in Milton, PA. He graduated from Princeton College in 1846, entering Princeton Seminary and graduating in 1849. Moore was then licensed and ordained as a Presbyterian reverend. He served as a pastor in South Bend from 1850-1861; the principal at the Valparaiso Collegiate Institute from 1861-1862; a hospital chaplain in the U.S. Army at Evansville, Madison, and New Albany from 1862-1865; and as a pastor for many more churches within Indiana in Crown Point, Lexington, Bethlehem, West Union, Hanover, and Sharon Hill. He later became the treasurer of Hanover College in 1887 and a trustee until the end of his life. He died 28 January 1904 in his Hanover home. He received an honorary degree of D.D. from Hanover College posthumously.

Scope and Content: Notes on theological topics taken by Ambrose Y. Moore, presumably taken while a student at Princeton College and Princeton Theological Seminary in the 1840s. The collection includes lecture notes and essays and covers theological topics such as the creation of man, discussion of the Protestant doctrine, the covenant with Adam, the nature of sin, the sin of Adam, imputation, apostacy, original sin, inability, freedom of will, law of God, divine law, covenant of grace, Christ, atonement, vocation, and regeneration, etc., with corresponding questions throughout. There are also notes and essays on including physics, geology, archeology, philosophy, and French.
