Scope and Content: The Edward J. Hamilton Papers, 1853-1917, includes materials collected and created by Edward J. Hamilton during his study and work as a pastor. The first four volumes are note taken by Hamilton of the lectures of Dr. A. Alexander and Hodge's theological course given from 1853 to 1858 at Princeton Theological Seminary. The lectures are on church history and follow topics from the Old and New Testament, early Christian history, and the rise of various churches after the Reformation. The last volume in the collection is Hamilton's pastoral diary for about a twenty-year period, primarily focused on sermons and inspirational thoughts.
