Letter from D.V. Smock to John Finley Crowe over the Cholera in Madison and the death of Dr. Scovel. Thomas to take over because of his stance on abolition and reputation. Smock proceeds to state that the college should not be a part of any party or faction. Additionally, Smock writes about how the issue of aboliton has torn apart churches and that they schould stand united. Smock states that he will guard the college against evils even Bro. Thomas is elected. Smock ends his letter with a description of his family's health.
