Scope and Content: Joshua Bolles Garritt was born in Litchfield, Connecticut on 23 January 1832. He graduated from Hanover College in 1853 and Princeton Theological Seminary in 1856. He received a Ph. D. from Wooster University and LL. D. from the University of Kentucky. He began teaching at Hanover in 1856 and a year later married Sadie Crowe, daughter of John Finley Crowe. Garritt taught languages at Hanover College and specialized in Latin and Greek. He retired in 1906 after teaching for fifty years. He died in Hanover, Indiana on 31 August 1918.
