Scope and Content: The Peter D. Kirles Tornado Photograph Collection contains photos taken after the tornado. It features images cataloging the wreckage and damage done to the Hanover College campus. The collection of photos was taken in 1974 directly after the tornado when the students were able to come back and account for the students who helped the reconstruction. These photographs are physical reproductions of the originals given to Marabeth Levett by Peter D. Kirles.

Historical Note: On April 3rd, 1974, Hanover College was hit by a massive tornado. It was part of the 1974 Super Tornado Outbreak. The storm destroyed much of the campus, including the Phi Mu sorority house and many other buildings. Students were sent home the following day, and the community began to rebuild the campus. Students came back to campus and helped in the rebuilding process.
