Historical Note: Robert Rosenthal was a professor of Philosophy at Hanover College and a friend of Harlan and Anna Hubbard. Harlan Hubbard was born on 4 January 1900 in Bellevue, Kentucky. Hubbard's father died when he was seven, and he and his mother moved to New York to be close to his brothers. Hubbard began questioning industrial development and resulting poverty he saw. As a result, he and his wife Anna lived a very simple life, living in a shanty boat they built themselves and later in a simple home on the Ohio River. Hubbard became known as a prolific writer and painter.

Scope and Content: The Robert Rosenthal Collection documents the efforts of Dr. Rosenthal to preserve the legacy of artist Harlan Hubbard and his wife Anna. Materials includes the records of the Friends of the Hubbards, such as correspondence, meeting minutes, and the Payne Hollow newsletter. The collection also contains newspaper clippings, an inventory of Hubbard's paintings, correspondence with the Hubbards, and records of the Hubbard Symposia and exhibitions.
