Scope and Content: Mason Deane P. Williams Papers includes sermons given while Williams was the pastor of the 4th Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY. There are also speeches and speech fragments from Williams while a student at Hanover College and Madison University. During Williams' academic studies, he also took notes of lectures from Drs. Alexander, Hodge, Mathews, and Miller. Topics are wide-ranging, but include theology, law, Presbyterian doctrine, and baptism, future of man, college societies, benevolence, government, foreign relations, worship, and death.

Historical Note: Mason Deane P. Williams was born in Shelby County, Indiana on 7 October 1821. He received his A.B. from Madison University in 1844, an A.B. degree from Miami University in Ohio in 1845, and an A.M. from Hanover College in 1847. Williams attended New Albany Theological Seminary from 1844-45 and Princeton Theological Seminary from 1845-1847. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister on 14 January 1848 in Louisville, Kentucky. He served as a pastor of the 4th Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY from 1848 to 1852. He died at age thirty on 26 April 1852 in Louisville.
