Scope and Content: The J. R. Gorgas Photographs collection contains photographs taken and collected by J. R. Gorgas, a photographer from Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana. Historical Note: Hanover College was founded in 1827 by John Finley Crowe, a Presbyterian minister, in southern Indiana as a Presbyterian Seminary. The college was the first private college in the state of Indiana. J. R. Gorgas was a photographer in Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana.
