View-Master Airplane Recognition Reels, 1941-1942 - Finding Aid

Public Deposited

Scope and Content: View-Master airplane identification reels created for the United States Naval Aviation Training Division during World War II. These self-study military reels were distributed to sailors as a training device for airplane recognition and range estimation. There are both Study Reels and Test Reels. Concentric circles on the images mimicked a gunsight, which sailors used to learn how to estimate the distance of the airplane.
