Historical Note: Joseph Walton was probably born around 1810. He married Araminta Pierpoint around 1835 in Louisiana. Joseph Walton died in 1842 or 1843 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Scope and Content: Documents and correspondence related to Joseph Walton and his brother John Walton, dated 1830-1834. Included are a membership certificate for life for the American Colonization Society signed by James Madison and correspondence exchanged by Joseph and John. The letters detail Joseph Walton’s experiences while traveling to England and his thoughts on British social customs. He also discusses his thoughts on marriage, meeting with old friends and travel.
