Letter from John Finley Crowe and Williamson Dunn to John Whitcomb, January 6, 1832

Public Deposited

A letter from John Finley Crowe and Williamson Dunn to John Whitcomb in order to correct statements made by Dr. Maxwell, President of the Board of Trustees of Indiana College. At the time of the letter Hanover College went through the process of transforming from an Academy to a College, and the corrections detailed in the letter intend to convince Whitcomb that Hanover should be given a college charter by the state. The corrections have to do with assertions made by Dr. Maxwell surrounding other colleges in the United States. The letter refutes the notion that, at the time, Indiana did not need Hanover College. Crowe and Dunn point out that they are in contact with hundreds of students who would like to work towards a college degree, but that they cannot attend Indiana College.
