Historical Note:
Clifford Adams and Blanche Hall (Adams) were both born in 1912 in Indiana. They both went to Hanover College, Clifford graduating in 1935 and Blanche in 1936. Clifford's major was Geology and Blanche's major was Social Science. The couple were married on December 24, 1938 and did not have any children. They both went on to graduate school and Clifford joined in the army. On November 12, 1944 he was wounded in Leyte Philippines, where he sustained a large amount of shrapnel in his face and eyes. The explosion left him permanently blind. Clifford became a Geology professor at Hanover College and Blanche became his assistant professor. Blanche also worked for Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville. Clifford passed away in August of 1971, he was found at his desk in Goodrich Hall on Hanover College campus. Blanche passed away on June 24, 1992.

Scope and Content: Papers of Samuel Clifford (known as Clifford or Cliff) and Blanche Adams, dated 1929-1971. Documents include a compilation of items from their time at Hanover College as undergraduates; their work as professors at Hanover; and memorials/tributes for Clifford Adams. It also includes letters from Clifford to Blanche and from Blanche to her mother during World War II, pertaining to the war, daily lives, different army camps/forts, Pearl Harbor, Japanese internment camps, rations, supply shortages, and war wounds.
