Scope and Content: The Chrestomathean Literary Society records documents the history of this literary society at Hanover College from 1888-1917. The collection includes the organizational constitution, meeting minutes, roll books, treasury records, a letter from the society, and single and joint exhibition programs with the Zetelathean Literary Society.

Historical Note: The Chrestomathean Literary Society was founded at Hanover College in 1888. It was formed from the Zetelathean Literary Society after a young woman was denied entry into the Zetelatheans. Seven women withdrew from the organization and formed the Chretomathean Literary Society. It was disbanded by 1920.
