Historical Note: Dorothy Bucks was born 7 October 1907 in Aurora, Illinois. She graduated from The University of Idaho in 1929 and went on to teach English at Batavia High School in Batavia, IL. In 1934 she received her masters from Northwestern University and received her Ph. D from there ten years later. Bucks served as a professor of English and Humanities at George Williams College in Chicago from 1936-1947. In 1947, she took a position as a professor of English and Dean of Long College for the Women at Hanover College. While at Hanover, Bucks was a member of the committee responsible for the creation of the Hanover Plan, an overhaul of the college's curriculum focused on the liberal arts and interdisciplinary studies. She also created the Shakespeare in England course, the first study abroad course at Hanover College. Dorothy Bucks died in 19 March 2002 in Hanover, IN.
