Historical Note: Abram and Sarah Hendricks were married in Madison, IN on 2 December 1856. They later moved to Indianapolis, IN, where Abram Hendricks worked as a lawyer.

Scope and Content: The Abram and Sarah Hendricks collection includes materials related to the Hendricks family of Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana, dated 1836-1887. The collection contains mostly correspondences between Abram and his family, Sarah and her family, as well as their own correspondences, the majority of which take place in the 1850s. Topics discussed include Hendricks family history, religion, college vicissitudes, social customs and 19th century entertainment, law practice, civil war recruitment, travels and vacation, city life, current events, fashion, décor, and marriage.
