Historical Note: Hanover College was founded in 1827 by John Finley Crowe, a Presbyterian minister, in southern Indiana as a Presbyterian Seminary. The college was the first private college in the state of Indiana. Dr. Edward P. Busse was the first superintendent of the Madison State Hospital, originally known as the Southeastern Hospital for the Insane, from 1910-1915. The hospital was nicknamed Cragmont due to its location on a bluff overlooking the Ohio River.
