Historical Note: William Thomas Lopp (1864-1939) graduated from Hanover College in 1888. Following his graduation, Lopp spent 2 years as an assistant principal in Indiana schools before going to Cape Prince of Wales, Alaska as a missionary. In 1890, became interested in raising reindeer, and by 1893 he was teaching Native Alaskans how to raise the animals. Next, Lopp served a term as District Superintendent of Alaskan schools from 1904-1909. Lopp's efforts helped to create a reindeer industry in the region as a source of income.

Scope and Content: The William Thomas Lopp Biographical Records contains biographical sketches, newsletters, and newspaper clippings related to the life and career of William Lopp. It focuses primarily on his work in Alaska with the school systems and the development of the Alaskan reindeer industry.
