Historical Note: Katharine Parker began writing the Summer Newsletter in 1936. As wife of president Albert Parker, she felt it her duty to keep the Hanover Family informed of campus happenings and to provide updates about the lives of faculty and staff. The summer newsletters contained a wide variety of information covering current events (the Depression, Pearl Harbor, World War II), professors' summer vacation plans, and major events in the lives of the community. The Summer Newsletter ceased publication in 1958, after Albert Parker's death.
