Scope and Content: The Ramsay Family Papers contain receipts for tuition payments, loan agreements, and donations to Hanover College, a Civil War Military Leave of Absence form, a postcard and published photograph album of the town of Hanover, and a Presbyterian Young People's Convention program.

Historical Note: Numerous members of the Wooley and Ramsay families attended Hanover College in the 19th and early 20th centuries and were connected through several marriages. Allen Ramsay (1828-1902) married Sarah Wooley (1837-1901); Allen's sister Martha Ramsay married Sarah's half-brother, Carey A. Wooley (Class of 1835); Carey's brother (and Sarah's half-brother) Edward M. Wooley (1821-1907) married Martha and Allen's sister Elizabeth Ramsay (1826?-1910). Allen and Sarah Ramsay had four children, three of whom were Hanover graduates: John P. Ramsay (Class of 1882), Anna Ramsay (Class of 1889), and Glendora Ramsay (Class of 1892). John's son Allan Ramsay also graduated from Hanover in 1914. He became a doctor, practicing medicine in Chicago.
