Les Ballerines

Public Deposited

Rectangular print with balanced usage of primary and secondary colors. Dark outlines surround the shapes of the included images. Two figures, one smaller and one larger, stand next to each other in ballerina costumes. Both the figures and the background contain a balance of warm and cool colors. The mostly red background compliments the orange figures and their brightly colored clothing. Shapes are organic and lines appear fluid and loose.

This print comes from Georges Rouault's illustrated book Cirque de l'Étoile Filante, which was published in 1938. It is the15th print in the book. The book surrounds circus imagery and figures. It is an aquatint print, which is an intaglio print method.
