Samuel Stanhope Crowe

He was the fourth child of John Finley and Ester (Alexander) Crowe. Mr. Crowe received his formal education at Hanover College, which his father founded. In 1863, he raised a company to take part in the Civil War and wrote a diary during this time. He was a captain for three years of Company “B” in the 93rd Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to major, lieutenant, and colonel before he was mustered out of the service. After the war, he practiced law for many years. He died in Palestine, Texas May 25, 1882.
