Abstract
  • Along with the political ramifications of the accident, there are ecological and health concerns that stem from the accident. Among these concerns, there is also a psychological concern surrounding Chernobyl, in the form of the way victims and those born from Chernobyl victims live their lives post-accident. These issues are further multiplied by the fact that even after the fire was subdued and the Object Shelter (a.k.a. the Sarcophagus) was completed, the overall threat of radioactive catastrophe never fully subsided. The idea that Chernobyl is still a threat over 30 years later increases the significance of the event, as well as the necessity to teach the world about the danger of atomic energy when it is utilized in faulty equipment by incompetent workers.
