Abstract
  • Photocatalysis, has been a growing field for many years, however the most commonly used photocatalysts negative effects. Such as not being economically viable due to containing rare earth metals, not being environmentally viable and being toxic and suspected carcinogens. In an attempt to employ a cheap, environmentally friendly catalyst, the catalytic capabilities of bismuth oxide have been studied using the oxidative amidation of aldehydes as a test reaction. Bismuth oxide was proven to be an effective photocatalyst for this test reaction due to high yields that were obtained.
