Abstract
  • Within my body of work, I intend to evaluate the lifestyle and events of the 1960’s and relate them to today’s world. By combining and comparing photos and imagery from both time periods. I intend to visually illuminate how major events in American history are repeating themselves. In both periods, I will show the differences between the romanticism and reality of major events and ideals. Through the comparison of these two eras’ ideas in a contemporary collage style, I am hoping viewers will be able to draw the connections between the two eras for themselves. The medium I plan to use is digital photo editing and manipulation. These works will then be printed as a large format to accommodate the viewers for comparison within a completed collection. I am also considering the application of screen printing over specific layers on the works. I believe the subject of my work will expose how American history is repeating itself. By highlighting many political and social issues of the 1960’s, I plan on showcasing how many similar issues are still occurring in today’s society. I am hoping to show that society has been desensitized by mass media and the realities of these two periods are very similar.
