To understand the importance of my thesis, there is a group of exceptional men known as the Anti-federalist. These men and three of them, I will be focusing on for the bulk of my paper. The Anti-federalist were not a political party but rather a group of men that share some common thoughts about politics and how the government should operate. It may sound like an ideology or political party, but it is much more of a viewpoint then ideology. Using Jackson Tuner Main’s book, The Antifederalist, was very insightful when researching the Antifederalist delegates at the Constitutional Convention. The Antifederalist of the convention didn’t bestow that name on themselves they were given the name by their opposition the Federalist. Jackson Turner Main stated in his introduction, “In reality they were determined to preserve the confederation, and the name, far from being their own choice, was imposed upon them by their opponents, the so called “Federalist”.” The Antifederalist were there to mend the Articles of Confederation, not to completely make a new document to govern the country. The antifederalist coming to the meet are a little under prepared being under the notion of replacing the articles. Jackson Turner Main stated, “they were merely obstructionist without any positive plan to offer.”
