Abstract
  • A vape or an e-cigarette is a device which uses a battery to quickly heat a liquid solution of glycerin, acetaldehyde, different glycols, artificial flavoring, and nicotine forming an aerosol which is how nicotine absorption occurs (37). Vapes are a tobaccoless alternative compared to traditional cigarettes which contain thousands of chemicals within the tobacco leaves or are artificially added along with nicotine (32). Nicotine stimulates the sympathetic nervous system triggering the fight or flight hormones which should make their acute symptoms almost identical. Long-term effects of nicotine usage or addiction can lead to many diseases, but if an individual was to “pick their poison,” the choice would depend on which one was better in the long run. This can be done possibly by observing physiological effects that occur with every smoke and parallel the long-term effects based off of the short-term effects.
