Petition to the King
Pubblico DepositedThe Petition to the King shows townspeople presenting the king with a basket of bones, the dragon's latest victims, pleading for a solution. The king deliberates and will soon declare that lots must be drawn by the young women of the village and the chosen one sacrificed to the dragon.

The series was commissioned in 1865 by a fellow artist, Birket Foster, to place in the dining room of his mansion, called The Hill, that once stood southwest of London.
