Memories of the Sea
Público DepositedThis sculpture was done by the first Greiner Award winner James Shaftstall in 1969. He was a faculty member in the Art Department at the time of the award. It depicts a boat fit for deep ocean sailing, made from what appears to be iron or a different metal. One could infer this piece was scrapped together from corroded boat parts, or cast specifically to mimic the look of a boat.
James Shaftstall (1934-2018) was a professor of Art at Hanover College from 1967-1999.
