Deux Personnages

Público Deposited

This is a color lithograph that comes from Karel Appel's book of lithographs entitled Ariel 4. On the back of this piece there is an excerpt from a poem, as well as an excerpt from Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer.

This work uses extremely bright colors that are contrasted with occasional dark, black and purple, outlines. In the two halves of the piece are two highly abstracted figures that contain the majority of the detail and movement of the piece. The background contains mostly cool and neutral colors including blue, green, yellow, and cream. The two figures in the foreground contain mostly warm colors, including red and orange.

Karel Appel(1921–2006). Dutch artist.
